FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the product, eTIMS and how Buni fits your stack.

What is Buni?

Buni is a business operations and invoicing platform for Kenyan businesses. You manage invoices, payments, customers, products, branches and teams in one place, with records structured for eTIMS — plus an API and webhooks to connect the software you already use.

What is eTIMS?

eTIMS (Electronic Tax Invoice Management System) is KRA's system for electronic tax invoicing. Buni structures your invoices into eTIMS-ready records and tracks every submission, so you always know which invoices are confirmed, pending, failed or awaiting retry.

Does Buni replace KRA?

No. Buni does not replace KRA and does not give tax advice. It produces structured electronic invoice records and tracks submissions honestly — the KRA relationship remains yours.

Can I connect my existing software?

Yes, through our API (v1) and webhooks. Your POS, accounting or custom software can create invoices, customers and products, and receive real-time events about submissions and payments — no rebuild required.

What is OSCU / VSCU?

OSCU (Offline Sales Control Unit) and VSCU (Virtual Sales Control Unit) describe how KRA-aligned software records sales offline and online. Buni's eTIMS integration architecture ships OSCU and VSCU adapters; today submissions run in simulation until production KRA connectivity is certified.

Can I have multiple branches?

Yes. Every transaction carries business and branch ownership, which is essential for multi-branch operations.

Can my accountant access Buni?

Yes. You add team members with role-based access — accountants get the financial and invoicing access they need, and every action is attributed to the user who performed it.

What happens when a submission fails?

Buni tracks every submission. Failed submissions enter a controlled retry flow with full audit trails, so nothing is lost in silence and you always know the status of every transaction.

How is my data protected?

Buni uses role-based access control, tenant-isolated data, encrypted secrets and audit logging. See the Security and Privacy policies for the details.

What does it cost?

Buni is free to start today and onboarding is included. Paid plans are being finalized as we calibrate infrastructure — you will not be charged until pricing is published and agreed.
